At a flat in Flat Haji Manan here on Tuesday morning, December 12, a citizen of Bangladesh passed away after being sliced with a cleaver by another citizen for reportedly disturbing him while he was asleep.

ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, the chief of Kluang police, stated that the victim, 28-year-old Muhammad Sobuj, who had worked in a store, had his head and neck sliced during the incident.

Five citizens of Bangladesh, ages 25 to 30, were taken into custody after the event to be questioned.

“A Bangladeshi national called police at 10 a.m. to report that a guy was unconscious and in a pool of blood following serious injuries.

“The initial investigation revealed that the incident happened when the fifth suspect who lives in the same room as the victim, admitted to slashing the victim with a cleaver which was found in the room, since he was angry when the victim had disturbed him while sleeping,” he stated in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Early investigations showed that the suspects, who shared a room, were aware that the victim had passed away as they were getting ready for work around eight in the morning.

According to him, the victim’s corpse was sent to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for a post-mortem. “The main suspect was detained at Jalan Nyior, opposite Taman Gunung Selatan Empat, here at about 4.45pm while trying to escape after the incident,” he told reporters.

The matter is being looked into for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and all five suspects are anticipated to be placed under detention.
