Bad news! Cross-bank ATM withdrawals will be charged RM1.00!
According to Maybank, a fee of RM1.00 will be levied on inter-bank ATM withdrawals. Currently, inter-bank ATM withdrawals are exempted from the RM1.00 fee, but the fee will be reinstated from February 1, 2022.
When the government implemented the movement control order last year, banks in the country announced a temporary waiver of the RM1.00 fee for inter-bank withdrawals in order to facilitate people’s withdrawals and prevent them from withdrawing money across counties. With the government’s opening up of economic activities and the lifting of the ban on movement restrictions, banks will resume charging the RM1.00 fee for inter-bank ATM withdrawals.
For example, if you have a Hong Leong Bank card and you want to withdraw money from a Maybank ATM, you will need to pay a fee of RM1.00. If you hold a Maybank bank card and withdraw money at Maybank ATM, you will not be charged RM1.00 fee.
ATMs are crowded places and it is recommended that you use e-wallets and e-transfers to reduce the number of ATM withdrawals and the risk of contracting covid-19 disease.
