POS Malaysia has been forced to increase its aviation fuel surcharge by up to 5% after the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine led to a sharp rise in the cost of aviation fuel, according to a statement issued by POS Malaysia. The increase will take effect from 1 April 2022.
Services affected include postal services from Peninsular West Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak, and from Sabah and Sarawak to West Malaysia. All these services will be affected by the increase in aviation fuel surcharge.
From the aviation fuel prices attached by POS, the price of a barrel of aviation fuel was about US$65 in March last year, while it has soared to about US$140 in March this year, an increase of more than 100%.
POS has also stated in its announcement that it will adjust the fees for the services it provides based on the latest situation.
