As part of the preparations for a possible surge in Covid-19 cases, PKRC with a capacity of 20 beds has been established at HPJ and HTAR.

The Central Region Zone PKRC at the Malaysia Agriculture Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) is scheduled to close this month, according to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, because to a drop in patient numbers.

Patients in groups one and two, which are asymptomatic and have minor symptoms, account for 99.5 percent of Covid-19 patients, while patients in categories three, four, and five have a lower rate of admission.

As a result, they can still accept patients and make preparations. He explained that the PKRCs were established by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in partnership with Mercy Malaysia, which provided equipment such as tents to house patients if the number of cases increased.

MAEPS opened as a PKRC on April 16, 2020, with the admission of Covid-19 patients limited to non-citizen patients in Categories one and two, and closed on July 15, 2020.

Following an upsurge in Covid-19 cases, the government decided to reopen MAEPS as a PKRC on December 9, 2020, and it was upgraded to PKRC MAEPS 2.0 on January 24, accepting Categories three and four patients.

Following the spread of the Omicron variant, MAEPS PKRC 2.0 was formally closed on February 8, but reopened on February 25.

The centre has treated a total of 166,072 Covid-19 patients in its 14 months of existence.
