 Johor has reported 7,967 HFMD cases as of 2/7/2022.

The number of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) cases reported in Johor from January 1 to yesterday was 7,967, a 75-fold increase over the 106 instances reported during the same time period last year.

According to Ling Tian Soon, the chairman of the State Health and Unity Committee, 6,870 of the HFMD cases involved children under the age of six, followed by cases involving children between the ages of seven and twelve (946), and cases involving children aged 13 and older made up the remaining cases.

Johor Baru, with 2,741 cases, had the most, followed by Kluang (1,039 cases), Tangkak (855 cases), Batu Pahat (817 cases), Segamat (679 cases), Kota Tinggi (616 cases), Pontian (532 cases), Muar (313 cases), Kulai (258 cases), and Mersing (117).

There were 45 HFMD outbreaks in kindergartens in the state, with private residences (22 outbreaks), nurseries (13), kindergartens (nine), pre-schools (eight), primary schools (three), and childcare facilitie (2).

He urged all childcare facility owners to keep taking preventative steps, including as regularly cleaning their hands with soap and water after using the restroom or changing diapers, before preparing food, and to make sure the space, furnishings, utensils, and toys are clean.
