Are you afraid that you will forget to renew your vehicle registration? You can now renew your road tax two months ahead of time!
According to the Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ), car owners can renew their road tax two months in advance, that is, two months before the road tax expires. Owners have the option of renewing their road tax for 6 months to a year.
It should be noticed that if the vehicle’s road tax has not been updated in over a year, the vehicle must be taken to PUSPAKOM for inspection. The owner or representative can send the B2 vehicle inspection report to JPJ for road tax update after receiving the B2 vehicle inspection report from PUSPAKOM.
In Malaysia, road tax is calculated based on the vehicle’s engine capacity. Cars engine with a capacity of 1000cc or less will will be paid RM20 per year, Cars engine with a capacity of 1001cc to 1200cc will be charged RM55, 1201cc to 1400cc will be charged RM70, and 1401cc to 1600cc will be charged RM90.
For cars engine with capacity 1601cc to 1800cc, the base road tax is RM200, while an extra RM0.40 will be charged for each additional 1cc above 1601cc. The basic road tax for cars with engines ranging from 1801cc to 2000cc is RM280 and for each additional 1cc, an additional RM0.50 will be charged for car engine above 1801cc.
The base road tax for cars with engines from 2001cc to 2500cc is RM380, an extra RM1.00 for each additional 1cc will be charged for car engines above 2001cc. The base road tax is RM880 for 2501cc to 3000cc cars, an extra RM2.50 for each additional 1cc will be charged. The basic road tax for cars over 3000cc is RM2130, plus RM4.50 for each additional 1cc will be charged.
