The victims of deposit theft are all of Chinese descent? And all of them use Android phones? No! The latest news shows that the victims are also of Chinese descent, and they are also using Apple phones.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Rafidah, who works as a consultant in the Department of Medicine and Nephrology at Putrajaya Doctors, said that her deposits in her CIMB account were stolen. Dr. Rafidah’s deposit was transferred in 3 instalments of RM13,000.
According to Rafidah’s Facebook post, CIMB had contacted her and said that she had inadvertently clicked on a link that led to fraudsters using an iPhone 6 to log into her CIMB bank account. Rafidah asked CIMB Bank why she did not receive the TAC verification code when the unknown device logged into her bank account.
Rafidah said that she was using an iPhone and had not downloaded any strange applications.
The news of the theft of Dr. Rafidah’s bank account has led many people to leave comments on CIMB’s Facebook page, asking the bank to strengthen its security system to prevent the theft of users’ deposits. Many of the messages were from people of Wiccan descent, indicating that the theft of deposits was not isolated to the Chinese community.
Previously, a single mother who was engaged in nail art also received an unfamiliar call while using the restaurant’s WiFi and later found out that her bank account was hacked and she lost more than RM60,000. The victim was eating at a restaurant in the evening of July 2 when she was connected to the restaurant’s WiFi and received an unfamiliar call from Telegram asking her about nail services.
The victim called back after confirming the appointment time, but found that the caller had been blocked. The victim then habitually checked her bank account and discovered that the deposit had been transferred within 13 minutes, in six separate transfers. The first two transfers were made in the form of FPX to an unknown company bank account, while the remaining four were normal bank transfers.
The victim was puzzled by the fact that there was no transfer notification or TAC for the entire transfer process. the victim stated that he had given his phone to a cell phone store for formatting a year ago and had not downloaded any software of unknown origin after that.
All the signs show that the bank deposit theft is not only in the Chinese community, and the victims are not all Android phone users.
