According to the BKM website, the government is opening appeals for the BKM from 2 May to 2 June 2022. There are two ways to appeal against the BKM, namely through the BKM website and by visiting the Inland Revenue Department (LHDN) office to submit an appeal form.
People whose BKM applications have been rejected will be informed of the reasons for their rejection and the authorities will include the rejection number and the reasons. If the person finds that the reasons for rejection are unreasonable, they can appeal and attach the relevant additional documents to prove their eligibility for the BKM grant.
However, if the reason for refusal is 08 or 09, i.e. the income does not qualify, you do not need to prepare additional documents and the Inland Revenue Department will re-examine the appeal application based on the data in the database.
If the reason for your refusal is number 19, i.e. you are applying for BKM assistance abroad. It is possible that the authorities can detect the IP address you used to make your application, so if you are in Malaysia, you must turn off the VPN on your mobile phone or computer to prevent the authorities from detecting that you are using an IP address from abroad.
If your BKM application has been rejected with numbers 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, you can only appeal in person at the nearest Inland Revenue Department counter. People with other reasons for rejection can appeal through the BKM website.
The BKM is a government-run assistance programme to help reduce the burden of the low-income group. Single persons with a monthly income of up to RM2,500 and families with a monthly income of up to RM5,000 are eligible for the BKM.
