Any state belong to the vaccination rates by more than 80% of adult population, adolescent vaccination can start for the state!
Sarawak is the first state in Malaysia to vaccinate young people when the vaccination rate of the adult population reaches 80%, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced.
State and territories that currently have vaccination coverage rates of more than 80% among the adult population are Klang Valley, Labuan, Sarawak and Negeri Sembilan. Each of these states can start vaccinating adolescents if sufficient vaccine supplies are available, which are still in short supply in the country.
The Ministry of Health will give priority to adolescents with chronic diseases, as well as to vaccinating 16 – and 17-year-olds, before gradually rolling it out to other age groups.
As of 11:59 PM on Sept 5, the vaccination rate of the adult population was 68%, compared with 48.8% of the total population. Sabah, Kelantan, Kedah and Perak are the four states with the lowest vaccination rates in the country.
