Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar will present the 2023 Budget in Parliament on February 24, 2023 (Friday) and will announce the cash handout in the Budget.
The government has already paid out the first phase of STR on January 17, when the family group will receive RM300 and the single person will receive RM100. 8.7 million people will benefit from the first phase of STR, involving a total of RM1.67 billion.
There are a total of 4 million beneficiaries in the family group and the amount involved is RM1.2 billion. The number of unattached aged people benefited 1.2 million with an amount of RM120 million. The single-person group has 3.5 million beneficiaries and the amount involved is RM350 million.
STR is a cash assistance scheme introduced by the Unity Government and will replace the BKM assistance scheme introduced by the previous government. Due to the serious inflation in the country, the burden of people’s living has increased, and the people’s demand for a targeted provident fund withdrawal scheme, the unity government led by Anwar should increase the amount of STR assistance to the low-income group.
Now let’s review the details of the BKM assistance in the 2023 budget presented by the former Finance Minister Tunku Zafrul.
1. Family with monthly income up to RM2500 (more than 5 children): RM2,500
2. Families with monthly income up to RM2500 (1 to 4 children): RM1,000 to RM2,000
3. Families with a monthly income of RM2501-RM5000: RM500 to RM1,250
4. For those with no spouse: RM600
5. Single parent with monthly income not exceeding RM3,000: RM500 extra
