The real test of a leader is when he is in power and is able to deliver results rather than spout pious platitudes, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says.

“Because you are judged by your actions. People do give you some grace period, but then they will have to see whether you mean business.

When asked how political leaders can make sure they are not fixated on rhetoric and instead focus on the real issues while being responsible for the next generation, he responded, “It applies to all opposition leaders who attain power by fighting corruption and abuse of power.”

“The true test of your ability to deliver comes when you are put in charge. During a question-and-answer period on Wednesday at the 30th Apec CEO Summit titled The Global Economy and State of the World, he stated, “The second is, of course, clear economic policies.”

Anwar also said a trust deficit occurs when leaders do not deliver.

“The people don’t trust leaders because of the rhetoric, (and) the pious platitudes. When there is no concrete action.”

Anwar is in San Francisco for the 30th Apec Economic Leaders’ Meeting, from Nov 14 to 17, marking his maiden visit for the official meeting as prime minister of Malaysia.

In conclusion, Anwar Ibrahim, attending the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, emphasizes the erosion of trust in leaders due to rhetoric without tangible actions. This insight highlights the critical need for leaders to bridge the trust deficit through genuine and concrete measures. Anwar’s presence at the international summit marks a significant moment in his tenure as Malaysia’s prime minister, underscoring the global dimension of trust and accountability in leadership.
