Attention Android users! Don’t download APK files indiscriminately!
According to a report by China Press, the fraud group has developed a new scam method, that is, sending an Android Package Kit (APK) in an attempt to trick people into downloading, and then asking them to enter their personal information such as bank cards, and then transfer the bank deposits.
In this regard, Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din pointed out that the police have received a total of 5 similar reports across the country so far, 3 in Johor, 1 in Penang and Sabah, and the deceived people lost a total of about RM58,884.
The steps they scam
- Use Facebook and other social media to post advertisements for discounted products to induce people to click on the download links of shopping platforms or video apps.
- The public will be induced to download the relevant APK File.
- The scammer will use this program to trick the public into replacing the SMS service system they originally used.
- When people buy discounted products on these apps, they will be instructed to open an account and enter bank cards and other information, and the user’s mobile phone will then display a payment failure screen.
- At this time, the user’s SMS system has been changed, so any OTP/TAC received has been known to the scammer group, and they will take the opportunity to transfer the user’s bank deposit.
People who use the Android system need to be aware, don’t download the APK File circulating on the Internet, don’t be scammed!
