According to Singapore’s News, a 4-month-old baby boy in Singapore was taken to hospital after he suffered a serious adverse reaction to a cream used to treat diaper rash.
The boy began using the cream at 2 weeks old and continued to experience vomiting, internal strabismus, and elevated cranial vault and brain pressure. The boy was subsequently taken to the hospital and confirmed to be suffering from steroid toxicity, resulting in Cushing’s syndrome.
After examining the cream, the Singapore Health Sciences Authority found that it contained corticosteroids with clobetasol propionate and the anti-mycotic drug ketoconazole. The use of these drugs without medical supervision may pose verified health risks, especially to infants and children.
