An American influencer recently revealed her experience buying a hamster for $20 only to be surprised by a $1,129 vet bill. “It better live for 10 years!” she shouted.
According to INSIDER, the Texas-based influencer documented her hamster named Chele falling ill, with veterinary costs totaling $1,129.
The most expensive item on the itemized bill was $587, while emergency assessment, treatment, and diagnostics were listed at $184 and $150, respectively.
The letter stated that X-rays will be reviewed by a specialist, although it was unclear from the video if Chele received treatment. Many netizens reacted to the video after it was released, sharing their own experiences.
“I remember having a guinea pig, and they wanted to do a $2,500 surgery with a survival rate of only 30%,”
one person recalled, while another wrote,
“Girl, they only live for 2 years, just let it be,”
and yet another said,
“I took a hamster to the vet when I was 20 (it died), and it felt awful, but they didn’t charge me.”
