According to the latest news, Alibaba has injected another $342.5 million into Lazada, which is the third time this year that Alibaba has injected money into Lazada. Alibaba injected $378.5 million into Lazada in May, another $912.5 million in September and another $342.5 million in December.

Alibaba acquired Lazada for $2 billion in 2016 and has been investing in Lazada, which has now been valued at $11.3 billion with a $4.8 billion investment, and has 159 million active users in the past 18 months.

Alibaba is very interested in the Southeast Asian market, which currently has a total population of 600 million people and will reach 640 million by 2030. Southeast Asia is the youngest and most active market in the world, with a median age of only 29 in Indonesia and 25.7 in the Philippines.

Previously Lazada has been the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, but then Shopee with a burn policy and a big handout coupons to cage the love of users, Shopee also bent to become the most used e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia. Recently TikTok Shope started to enter the Southeast Asian market and gradually erode the market share of other e-commerce platforms.
