Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pointed out that the RM1,500 minimum salary system is imperative and cannot wait for all employers to agree before implementing it.
UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a Facebook post that he agrees with the government’s proposal to raise the minimum salary to RM1,500, which is in line with the matter and very necessary to implement.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi believes that the government cannot wait until all employers agree and feel comfortable before implementing a minimum salary of RM1,500. The minimum salary is the moral responsibility of the employer.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi believes that raising the minimum wage will give the people more purchasing power and allow them to enjoy a more comfortable and better quality of life. The increase in the minimum wage will also stimulate the consumer sector in the country, which in turn will bring more profits to businesses.
Previously, the Minister of Human Resources Dato’ Seri Saravanan said that the minimum salary is expected to be raised at the end of this year and is now waiting for the approval and passage of the cabinet.
In this regard, some netizens said that raising the minimum salary will only worsen domestic inflation because employers will raise the price of goods to pay employees’ salaries. Some people also think that raising the minimum wage will make more people lose their jobs because employers can’t afford to pay too much and at least have to choose to lay off their employees.
Some people also said that raising the minimum wage will only benefit foreign workers, but not the nationals.
