There were explosions and heavy smoke after fireworks were destroyed.

In Sentul, a fire broke out at a police evidence storage yard suspected to be housing seized contrabands like as pyrotechnics, with eyewitnesses reporting explosions from one of the compound’s buildings. Thick smoke billowed from the building’s surroundings, according to footage circulating on social media. Sentul police had summoned members of the media to the yard earlier today to witness the disposal of more than RM4.17 million in fireworks confiscated last month.

According to a statement released by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call was sent at 6.22 p.m., with firefighters arriving at 6.32 p.m. The fire destroyed 30% of the compound building structure and 80% of an open area containing 50 automobiles in an evidence storage area. Around 7.02 p.m., the blaze was finally extinguished thanks to the combined efforts of five different Fire and Rescue Departments. There were no casualties, although three guys were sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for medical treatment after suffering small lacerations.

The event was confirmed by Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai, who added that three individuals had minor torso injuries. Beh later indicated in a brief media release that the routine operational procedures for disposing of seized contrabands were in compliance with the Court Order. “To inform,” he explained, “the seized objects were disposed of by flattening them with a steamroller and soaking them in water before being buried.”

The fire’s cause is still being investigated.
