Sarawak contractors will benefit from Phase 2 of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road and the Trans Borneo Highway.

Sarawak contractors should seize numerous chances arising from the development of Phase 2 of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) and the Trans Borneo Highway (LTB).

Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, caretaker senior works minister, stated that these two huge allocation projects necessitated the participation of contractors from large and small businesses.

These two large projects are worth approximately RM12 billion, and building is expected to begin in the middle of 2023. They will also need to locate contractors for other components of these projects, such as the installation of electric wires and street lights.

The caretaker prime minister announced on August 7 that the federal cabinet has approved Phase 2 of the SSLR and LTB projects, with construction beginning as early as 2023. Technical studies for the Phase 2 SSLR and LTB connecting Miri, Limbang, and Lawas were nearing completion, with construction projected to take 3 to 5 years.

The project would not only allow residents in northern Sarawak to go to Sabah via two road networks, but it would also aid locals in Mulu, Long Seridan, Nanga Medamit, Long Lopeng, Ba’kelalan, and Merarap, who currently rely on logging routes.

Meanwhile, Bumiputera entrepreneurs must strive to dispel the image that they are unduly reliant on the government for assistance.

They need to broaden our perspective; we live in Sarawak, a large state with many resources, but our difficulty is that the population is small and the market is limited. They must accept this as a challenge and help us to generate our own possibilities.
