A special task force is intended to keep food and inflation costs down.

According to Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the chairman of the Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation, both inflation and food costs must be kept at low levels in this nation.

The special task team noted that the country’s inflation had climbed by 3.4% in June, according to the Minister of Communications and Multimedia.

Although there is a rising tendency in inflation, it is crucial that our special task force continues to keep an eye on things to prevent an unchecked rise in inflation.

Meaning that the government won’t allow (inflation) to increase, he told reporters after attending the Keluarga Malaysia Sales Auction programme in conjunction with the Kelantan Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations (AKM) Tour at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in this city today. “Our task now is to control so that the inflation rate is at a level of three per cent and for food items around five to six per cent,” he said.

Annuar further promised that the special task team will continue to work hard and take serious action against inflation, which would be periodically revealed.

Before the administration made any decisions regarding how to handle the increase in the inflation rate, according to Annuar, engagement sessions with pertinent parties needed to be held.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reports that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Malaysia increased by 3.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 127.4 in June 2022 from 123.2 in June 2021, exceeding the average inflation in Malaysia for the period of January 2011 to June 2022 by 1.9%. According to Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, food inflation increased by 6.1% and continued to be the main driver of the increase in inflation

Annuar added that the data on the rise in inflation will be used as proof that the creation of the special task force was still necessary now and into the future.
