UWSS will put an end to Sabah’s water supply issues.

The Urgent Water Supply Scheme (UWSS) being completed at the Telibong 1 and 2 water treatment plants would hopefully put an end to water supply difficulties for inhabitants of Tuaran and the northern section of Kota Kinabalu.

Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah, stated that the UWSS is projected to be fully operational at Telibong 1 by early December, with treatment capacity up to 5 million litres daily (mld) from 75mld.

Furthermore, he stated that when the UWSS is installed at Telibong 2 in February or March of next year, the treatment capacity will increase to 10mld from 80mld.

As a result, the systematic approach would increase water delivery to affected communities by 15 million litres per day. Water rationing, on the other hand, remains in place as a temporary measure to maintain adequate supply for people.

As a long-term solution to the water supply problem, the state government is also assessing the viability of a 1mld capacity water treatment facility under phase 3 of the Kota Kinabalu Water Supply Plan.
