A supplier in Perlis who stored cooking oil beyond the allowed level was caught to be fined RM1 M.
If found guilty, a supplier who stores cooking oil above the permitted level faces a fine of up to RM1 million.
According to information obtained, officers searched a location in kampung Baru Padang Besar that was housing cooking oil at around 9 am, according to Perlis police head Datuk Surina Saad.
Police conducted an inspection and discovered the supplier was holding more than the permitted 80 tonnes—92.16 tonnes, or 92,156 kilograms—of cooking oil in 5-liter bottles intended for sale to Thailand.
12 tonnes (12,156 kg) of excess cooking oil, valued at around RM48,800, were seized by the police.
The Control of Supplies Act of 1961 and Regulation 10 (1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations of 1974 were invoked in the investigation of the 41-year-old supplier.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) received the case products and the suspect for further handling.
If found guilty, the guy could get a maximum fine of RM1 million or a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
She advised anyone with knowledge of the misuse of cooking oil to contact the local police station.
