1,817 victims have been relocated to 22 relief centres across 6 states.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), as of 4 p.m. today, 1,817 flood victims from 488 families were housed at 22 relief centres in six flood-affected states.

Following Selangor, Kelantan, and Johor, the latest states to be affected were Kedah, Penang, and Melaka. The Drainage and Irrigation Department in Selangor has deployed water pumps to Meru and Klang to help remove stagnant water.

Because the water level in the housing areas is still high, they decided to use water pumps in the hope that their efforts would aid in the drying process. This collaborative effort between the state government and the DID will be expanded to other areas experiencing the same issue.

NADMA also reported that two Kelantan districts, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah, were flooded as of 6 p.m. today. The water level at the Sg Siam station in Kampung Sungai Siam, Sungai Johor basin, was expected to breach the dangerous mark by 0.02 m by 6 p.m. today in Johor.

Residents in low-lying areas have been asked to prepare for relocation and to follow instructions if they are ordered to do so. As of 6 p.m., three relief centres in the Segamat district had been activated.

Meanwhile, NADMA advised residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant. They can also get information and warnings from http://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, as well as from the ‘PubliclnfoBanjir’ Facebook page and Twitter handle @JPSInfoBanjir.

Members of the public can also get up-to-date and real-time weather information from MetMalaysia by downloading the’myCuaca’ app from Google Play and the App Store. The DID also issued a warning about the possibility of flash floods in six states: Johor, Terengganu, Kedah, Sabah, Sarawak, and Selangor.

Flash flooding is possible in some states if heavy rain or significant thunderstorms occur within 12 hours of the notice being issued.
