Nowadays, online transfer is becoming more and more common and you only need to know the account number of the other person to transfer the money to them.
If you accidentally transfer money to another person by mistake, you can first go to the police station and report the incident. Then you can take the report paper to the bank branch you use and ask the bank employee to trace the money for you.
Since the money has already been transferred to the other person’s bank account, the bank has no authority to transfer the money back to your bank account. The bank employee will contact the person and ask them if they are willing to return the money. If they are willing to return the money, they will need to go to a branch of the bank and fill out a form.
If the person is not willing to pay back the money, you will need to take legal action. If the amount is less than RM5,000, you can sue in the Small Claims Court. If the amount is more than RM5,000, you will need to ask your lawyer to send a letter.
