A passenger was hit and killed when he changed driving while the truck was parked on the highway in the early morning.

The driver of a truck was tired from driving on the highway in the early morning and wanted to change drivers. As a result, the 37-year-old front seat passenger got out of the car and walked to the driver’s seat to open the door. He was suddenly hit by a lorry coming from behind and was hit by a missile. The fatal car accident occurred at 4:20 this morning on the northbound roadside at kilometer 21.6 of the Second Central Link Expressway (Elite) of the North-South Expressway.

Kualeng District Police Chief Ahmad Leman pointed out that the deceased was an unemployed local man who was sharing a car with a friend who was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck at the time of the incident.

He issued a statement this afternoon saying that according to police investigation, the truck was driving from Port Dickson to Shah Alam. When it arrived at the scene of the incident, the driver felt extremely tired and asked his friend who was sitting in the passenger seat, the deceased, for assistance. Drive and park the truck in the emergency lane to change driver.

Unexpectedly, when the man got out of the car from the front passenger seat and walked towards the driver’s seat to open the door, a Hicom truck from the same direction suddenly hit the car door and the man from behind, and ejected the deceased into the middle lane.

Ahmad Leman pointed out that after the lorry hit the truck and lost control, it also flew into a Perodua Axia sedan that was driving in the middle lane. However, the lorry driver, Axia driver and truck driver were not involved in this incident. None were injured in the crash.

He disclosed that the police investigated under Section 41 of the Land Transport Act 1987 (causing death by dangerous driving).

He urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigating officer Sergeant Mazro (011-1853 9116) or the Kualeng District Police Headquarters (03-3187 2222) to provide information.
