A 35 year old Malaysian woman posted anonymously on Instagram “Malaysian Pay Gap” claiming she had given up her RM3,700 monthly pay and was now happier. Intense discussions among netizens also surrounded the subject of money and happiness.
A user of the internet revealed that she had worked as a project administrator (Project Management) in the past. While earning a minimum monthly make of RM3700, she must always be “On Call”! People would try to get in touch with her even on days off from work or during holidays, and the projects she was working on had deadlines and required completion dates that prevented her from getting a full night’s sleep. The netizen made the decision to resign from his part time position at a convenience shop close to his house for the benefit of his own mind and body.
The netizen currently earns RM1500 per month as a convenience store worker, but she expressed her happiness in the following ways: “No more traffic jams, no more worry about the phone ringing at any time, no longer do I need to count down the project deadline every day and night,” she stated.
