Sivaperumal Subramaniam passed away after undergoing surgery at the Klang Hospital, leaving a guidewire in his blood vessels.
According to former Seberang Prai City councilman David Marshel, Sivaperumal, 51, passed away late on Wednesday, December 27.
“His health has deteriorated since the incident where the guidewire was left in the blood vessel during a procedure to place a dialysis valve on Dec 7, which was later removed at the Sungai Buloh Hospital the next day,” Marshel said on his Facebook page on Wednesday, December 27.
“He was admitted to the Universiti Hospital for a ward stay and suffered for 21 days before being released because of dyspnea and vomiting.
“Sivaperumal’s death should be taken seriously by the Health Ministry,” said Marshel.
According to reports, Sivaperumal was treated for dialysis at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) from December 4 to December 7. The hospital then went ahead and inserted a dialysis catheter (tube).
After that, his illness grew worse and he started vomiting all the time.
It was subsequently determined that a 22-cm guidewire was within the body after looking over the X-ray data.
On December 9, Dr. Zulkarnain Rawi, the director of HTAR, gave an assurance that the hospital was looking into the claim and would not compromise on any carelessness if it turned out to have happened.
