LA PAZ (Reuters) -Authorities in La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, declared a state of emergency on Sunday in response to heavy rain that followed the weekend’s destruction of numerous homes by overflowing rivers, according to an official document.
According to the paper, Bolivian President Luis Arce promised to send 3,000 troops and heavy gear to stop additional damage.
By interrupting water, electricity, and roads, heavy rains caused flooding in a number of neighbourhoods and isolated areas of the city.
Arce wrote on the social media platform X, “We are deeply concerned by the difficult situation that our municipality in La Paz is going through.”
According to official data, since the start of the rainy season in January, about 50 people have perished in floods around the nation. One person lost their life due to the severe rains over the weekend in La Paz.
