Taiwan’s renowned dermatologist Peng Yubin, unfortunately, died suddenly in Shanghai a few days ago, the news came out, causing shock and mourning from all walks of life. It is reported that Peng was running in the hotel gym, had sudden heart failure, was found to have collapsed on the ground, was sent to the hospital, and still died.
Dr. Liu Zhongping, a specialist lecturer of the Society of Cardiology, said that exercise certainly has many benefits, but strenuous exercise should also be attention to avoid a heart attack, once the signs of chest tightness and chest pain, dizziness, and blackness, as well as weakness in the hands and feet, it is important to stop exercising immediately, but also to seek the help of bystanders, to avoid the risk of sudden death.
Dr. Liu Zhongping’s Facebook “Dr. Liu Zhongping cardiology notes” posted that the causes of post-exercise cardiac accidents include coronary atherosclerosis leading to sudden thrombosis, poor blood supply to the heart, hypertrophic heart disease, etc. Strenuous exercise may lead to a change in the flow rate of blood vessels or vascular extrusion so that intravascular lesions are prone to rupture. After rupture, sympathetic excitation during exercise may also activate platelets, causing blood clots to coagulate on ruptured vascular plaques, ultimately leading to insufficient blood supply to the heart and triggering myocardial infarction.
Liu Zhongping reminds that a heart that has not been properly trained, or a heart that is naturally hypertrophied, may also lack blood supply during exercise and be prone to fatal arrhythmias. However, cardiologists are still encouraging exercise, but suggest that it is best to maintain good health and have a complete physical examination.
It is worth noting, Liu Zhongping said first, there are studies showing that smokers in the exercise of sudden death chances are particularly high, smokers must pay attention. In addition, when the following three danger signals occur during exercise, be sure to stop immediately and seek assistance from others:
1. Chest tightness, chest pain, and sudden increase in heart rate: Beware of myocardial infarction or arrhythmia. 2. Dizziness and blackness: Worry about poor blood circulation to the brain.
2. Dizziness and blackness before the eyes: Be concerned about poor blood circulation in the brain, which may be due to the heart’s inability to supply blood to the brain, and may be a precursor to stroke.
3. Weakness in the arms and legs and inability to follow directions: Be aware of poor circulation or an electrolyte imbalance that prevents muscles from contracting.
Dr. Hsuan Huang, a critical care specialist, also mentioned earlier that the most common sudden death from exercise occurs when there is no warm-up for sudden exercise, when there is a sharp stop after intense exercise, and when the person is in an oxygen-deficient environment or doing unfamiliar exercises. Normally in the state of no exercise, the blood back to the atrium, as long as the venous contraction is enough; but in strenuous exercise, the heart to output per minute without exercise 16 to 17 times, muscle blood flow should also be increased by more than 25 times. When encountered outside the environment cold, blood vessels contrary to resist has been continued to contract, and even infarction of the heart blood vessels, at this time the heart blood flow must be insufficient, may produce the risk of sudden death.
