Price increase for imported white rice!
The National Rice Corporation (Bernas) has announced an increase in the price of imported white rice from RM2350 to RM3200 per metric tonne, an increase of RM850 or 36% per metric tonne.
According to a statement issued by the National Rice Corporation (NRC), factors such as climate change, weak exchange rate and regional conflicts have contributed to the increase in the cost of imported rice.
Previously, the rice companies absorbed the increase in the price of imported rice on their own, but now they have been forced to increase the price of imported rice in order for the rice companies to sustain their operations.
In any case, Malaysia still has one of the lowest prices for imported rice among Southeast Asian countries.
