Malaysia’s First Aircraft Transformed into Boutique Café

19/06/2023

The first boutique store and café in a modified Boeing 747-230B airplane have opened at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet in Malacca, Malaysia, and have been recorded in the Malaysian Record Book.

The Boeing 747-230B aircraft procurement, transfer, and assembly for the Coach Airways project for this specialty retailer were finished in May 2023.

The aircraft measures 231 feet 10 inches in length and has a wingspan of 195 feet 8 inches, making it the largest commercial aircraft in the world during the 1960s. The first-class cabin area has been transformed into the entrance of the boutique store. The boutique store, named Coach Airways, held its grand opening ceremony this morning, with the presence of the Chief Minister of Malacca, Dato’ Seri Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, and witnessed by Mr. Wong Feng Wei, the Chief Operating Officer of the Malaysian Record Book, who presented a certificate to Mr. Lau Yew Leong, the Director of Freeport A’Famosa Outlet.

The boutique shop gives customers a realistic boarding experience by including a boarding corridor, a mock cockpit, and seating sections inspired by the first-class cabin. In the aircraft, there is also a café where guests can unwind.

The Director of Freeport A’Famosa Outlet, Mr. Lau Yew Leong, noted that the Coach Airways engineering team spent two years redesigning this enormous Boeing 747 airplane, creating a unique shopping experience.

“This new project is our pride and joy, as it will offer Malaysians and international tourists an exciting and immersive shopping experience, allowing them to explore the cockpit, cabin, and relaxation areas of an aircraft while browsing our merchandise.”
