Global chip supply shortage continues, JPN delays issuing MyKid for newborns!
According to the news issued by the Director General of the National Registration Office (JPN), the MyKid ID card for our newborns will be delayed by 6 months due to a global shortage of chips caused by coronary diseases. Parents will need a longer period of time to get their newborn’s MyKid.
Parents can use their child’s birth certificate if they want to go through the various procedures for their child. The birth certificate is a valid government-issued identification document. The private sector and government agencies are urged to accept the child’s birth certificate for various purposes.
All children born in Malaysia are required to apply for a birth certificate and MyKid, or MyKad when the child reaches the age of 12, or at the latest by the age of 16.
Under the National Registration Act 1990 (amended in 2007), people are also required to change to a second Malaysian card between their 18th birthday and the age of 25.
