Primary and secondary schools will start their classes on January 1 and 3 respectively!
According to a Facebook post by Education Minister Farina, primary and secondary schools will start the second half of the third semester on January 1 and 3.
Students in Group A states (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) will return to school on January 1 (Sunday), as these four states do not enjoy the New Year’s Day holiday on January 1.
Students in Group B (other states) will have to return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Classes in Group B will start on Jan. 3 because of the New Year’s Day holiday on Monday, Jan. 2.
Primary and secondary schools will have at least 5 days off during the Lunar New Year, which runs from January 20 to January 24. Schools can apply for January 25 to be listed as an official holiday, so that the same students can have an extra day off.
Schools in Group A states will have their final holidays from February 17 to March 18, while schools in Group B states will have their final holidays from February 18 to March 19.
Group A states: Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu
Classes: January 1 – February 16, 2023
Holidays: February 17 – March 18, 2023
Group B States: Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan
Classes: January 3 – February 17, 2023
Holiday: February 18 – March 19, 2023
