5G in Malaysia is only available to the rich?

Some netizens pointed out that Malaysia’s 5G network is only available to “rich people” at this time because all packages that support the 5G network require a higher monthly fee.

The Malaysian 5G network will be officially launched in December 2021, but only one telecommunications company, YTL Yes, will do so. In November 2022, Digi, Celcom, U Mobile, and Unifi will begin rolling out 5G networks.

At the moment, the 5G networks launched by various domestic telecommunications companies have special requirements, such as the fact that only designated packages can use 5G network services, and they are all expensive monthly packages.

As an example, consider Digi. At this time, Digi only makes the 5G network available to Digi Postpaid 90 or higher packages, which means users must pay RM75 or more per month to use the 5G network. Celcom can also only use the 5G network with Celcom MEGA 80 or higher packages, and the monthly fee for these packages is more than RM80.

If you want to use a 5G network at a lower cost, you should go with U Mobile, Yes, or Unifi Mobile.

For U Mobile, there is a package with a monthly fee as low as RM25, but the 5G network has special requirements, such as only using the 5G network for 1 hour per day or only using the 5G network on weekends and Sundays. U Mobile also offers a U Postpaid 38 package that supports a 5G network, but it only allows for 30GB of Internet data per month. In the case of a 5G network, 30GB can be consumed in a matter of hours.

Yes has introduced the FT5G Unlimited plan. This package has a monthly fee of RM30. Every month, you have unlimited access to the 4G and 5G networks. The 4G network is limited to 7Mbps, whereas the 5G network has no such restriction. Yes also launched Postpaid Plans with monthly fees as low as RM58 that include unlimited access to 4G and 5G networks.

Unifi Mobile offers Unlimited Prepaid 5G network service for as little as RM35, or Postpaid 5G network service for as little as RM59.
