Want to buy a new car? You can actually go online and buy your own number plate from as low as RM310.
The Malaysian Land Transport Department (JPJ) has launched an online license plate number purchase service where people can go online and purchase their preferred license plate number. After completing the payment, you can hand over the relevant documents to your car buying agent and let them handle the subsequent procedures.
There are two types of fees for purchasing a license plate number online, the first is the license plate number fee which is a minimum of RM300 and the second is the service fee which is only RM10. Both fees add up to a minimum of RM310 and you can choose to pay for the license plate number through your bank card or Internet Banking.
Here’s how you can buy your own license plate number online. If you already have a mySIKAP online account, you can skip to step 6.
How to buy a license plate number online through mySIKAP
Step 1: Browse to https://public.jpj.gov.my/public/login.zul and select Daftar / Log Masuk Kali Pertama (MyKad).
Step 2: Enter your ID number, cell phone number, email address and security verification code and click on Teruskan.
Step 3: Complete the registration process for your account and check your email. You will receive a temporary password by email.
Step 4: Login to mySIKAP with the temporary password and then change the password.
Step 5: Log in to your mySIKAP account again.
Step 6: Select Kenderaan, followed by Tempahan No. Pendaftaran at the bottom.
Step 7: You can select the state or region, then select the letter of the license plate number, enter the license plate number you want and click Cari.
Step 8: The system will display the price, you just need to follow the instructions to complete the payment.
