Malaysia and EU are exploring collaboration to develop sustainable aviation fuel.
According to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Malaysia and the European Union (EU) have decided to investigate future cooperation under the Transport Ministry to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
This includes promoting the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme Agenda for International Aviation (Corsia) as well as making the product more readily available and more reasonably priced for participants in the aviation industry in the future.
At the 28th Asean Transport Ministers Meeting, which was held today in Bali, Indonesia, these issues were discussed during the bilateral meeting between the delegations of Malaysia, which he led, and the EU, which was led by Henrik Hololei of the European Commission’s department for Mobility and Transport.
Henrik Hololei also praised Malaysia’s accomplishments in the aviation industry, specifically its recent International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA ) standards compliance and its re-election to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council and reinstatement to the US FAA’s Category 1 safety rating.
He said that the two sides also discussed working with European firms already present in Malaysia as well as future transportation and logistics collaboration between Malaysia and the EU.
He claims that the EU Commission has also been invited to take part in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LlMA), which will take place in May of 2019.
He added that South Korea reiterated its commitment to exchanging experiences and best practises in order to enhance the Asean transportation system during the 13th meeting of Asean and Republic of Korea (ROK) Senior Transport Officials Meeting. Other associated initiatives under the Asean-ROK Transport Cooperation Roadmap 2022–2025 were also included.
During the group of 20 member countries (G20) summit tomorrow in Bali, they anticipate a successful outcome of the Asean-ROK Air Services Agreement, which is advantageous for increased connectivity between Asean and the ROK. In order to implement the strategy, Malaysia would continue to facilitate improved communication between Asean members and the ROK.
