Before Xiaomi has officially announced the news of building a car, any news about Xiaomi’s car will spark outside attention. Therefore, Lei Jun generously confessed on Xiaomi’s annual speech One more thing, in the next two years Xiaomi does not disinformation, will only choose the right node and everyone to report on the automotive business. It is reported that Xiaomi’s first sedan model has identified the LIDAR supplier as Wo Sai Technology, with a price ceiling of more than 300,000 yuan (about RM194,500).
The report points out that the specific LIDAR configuration of Xiaomi’s first model is to use one Woosai hybrid solid-state radar AT128 as the main radar and several Woosai all-solid-state radars as the complementary blind radar. The all-solid-state LIDAR has a larger viewing angle and smaller blind spot than the hybrid solid-state radar, which makes it suitable for blind spot filler. Laser distance measurement can obtain data instantly, which is more accurate for autonomous driving.
An industry source commented that this configuration of Xiaomi is better than the current solution of using hybrid solid-state radar to fill in the blindness of some models, which is a key sensor to achieve high-level autonomous driving. A source close to Xiaomi told foreign media “Late Auto” that Lei Jun is convinced that the end game of smart electric cars is autonomous driving, and Xiaomi has invested 3 billion yuan in autonomous driving.
After Xiaomi Group invested in WoSai Technology; Xiaomi Changjiang Industry Fund twice led the investment in autonomous driving chip company Black Sesame Intelligence, and then this year also led the investment in LIDAR company Speedy Polytron. Before that, Shunwei Capital, which was founded by Lei Jun before he established Xiaomi, has invested in LIDAR companies North Wake Photon and Tudatone.
