Method to apply for a position as a civil servant
The older parents in the family push their children to become government employees because they believe that they are an iron job with more benefits, less effort, and a good wage.
There are currently 1,273,607 individuals living in our nation, excluding members of the armed forces and law enforcement. Only 73,190 of them are Chinese civil servants, whereas more than 90% of them are Bumiputera. Here is a short application guide if you are also interested in working for the government of Malaysia.
In 2020, the Malaysian Public Service Agency (SPA) unveiled SPA9, an updated job-search portal. Every application is good for 12 months.
You do not need to re-register if you have previously completed the application form and it is still valid.
However, you will need to start over if your application is older than a year and you want to reapply or if you want to amend your information.
In general, Malaysia has two different categories of civil servants: federal civil servants and state civil servants. State-level civil workers are those who work for the state, whereas federal civil employees are those who are directly appointed by the federal government.
Anyone interested in applying for federal civil service should go to the Malaysian Public Service Commission (SPA) website at https://spa9.spa.gov.my/login.
First-time users of SPA9 must register an account by selecting Pendaftaran Pengguna and filling out the necessary fields.
You can select a career of interest after submitting the SPA9 form. Before summoning eligible applicants for interviews, the government will first screen the applicants. You will also need to wait for the interview results when the interview is finished. Before starting work, you will be informed if your application for admission as a government servant was successful.
However, a probationary term is still necessary before you may formally join the civil service. You can formally join the Malaysian civil service after the probationary period is over.
In recent years, the government has started to hire civil servants under contract, meaning that they will sign a one-year work contract with the government, and the government will decide whether to renew the contract after it expires in order to implement austerity measures and reduce government spending. The civil servant will need to find other employment if the government decides not to extend the contract.
