Malaysian number plates are arranged in alphabetical and numerical order, so you can tell where the vehicle is registered by the letter of the plate. The first letter of a Malaysian number plate represents the state, for example, Selangor is B, Johor is J, Penang is P, Kedah is K, Negeri Sembilan is N, Pahang is C, Perak is A, Sabah is S, Sarawak is Q and so on.
The second and third letters of the alphabet are used as the order of the number plate. For example, in Selangor, the number plate goes from BQA to BQY and then it will start from BRA to BRY and so on. However, the letters I, O and Z will not be used in the number plates as this is to avoid confusion with the numbers 1, 0 and 2.
