A 24-passenger express bus flips over in KL’s Jalan Damansara.

When the express bus they were riding in slid and crashed at Jalan Damansara, here, last night, 25 passengers experienced some uneasy moments.

According to a representative for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, 18 firefighters from the Hang Tuah and Sentul fire and rescue stations flocked to the site after receiving a distress call at 12:17 in the morning.

The rescue crew who arrived on the scene discovered that a double-decker express bus from Ipoh, Perak, was involved in the collision.

To remove all the casualties, the rescue squad had to smash the bus’s windscreen.

The patients, who had just minor wounds, were taken here to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for additional assessment.

The first and second drivers of the double-decker bus were taken to the city traffic police station for questioning and released at 4.45 am after police recorded their statements, according to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim.

The Department of Chemistry also collected the two drivers’ blood and urine samples for a toxicological examination.

When reached today, he stated that the situation was looked into in accordance with Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987.

Around 12.05am, the event happened when the bus’s driver lost control of the wheel as it was transporting 24 people from Ipoh, Perak, to Singapore. As a result, the bus crashed into a concrete road divider before flipping over.

A total of 19 passengers sustained injuries, and they were treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Five passengers and the two bus drivers, however, were unharmed in the collision.
