Housewives Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) allows housewives to become members of the PERKESO / SOCSO and the housewife can either pay the premiums herself or the husband can pay the premiums on her behalf.
Under this scheme, if the husband pays the premiums for his wife but fails to make the contributions on time, the husband will be liable to Section 11. The offence is punishable by a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both.
However, if the husband is unemployed or unable to continue to pay the contributions, he may notify the social security institution 60 days before the contributions are due and the penalty may be waived.
Social Security Scheme for Housewives (SKSSR) is not a compulsory measure and participation is optional for housewives. Housewives are insured up to the age of 55 or death. Insured persons are entitled to medical treatment, permanent disability, fixed service allowance, pension and mortuary administration benefits and can receive compensation of up to RM30,000.
