Dengue fever cases in Kedah have increased 143.8 %

According to State Health Director Dr Othman Warijo, dengue cases in Kedah surged by 143.8 percent this year as of June 11, with 490 cases compared to 201 cases during the same period last year.

This year, one person died from dengue fever, and outbreaks surged to 55 cases, compared to only eight cases in the same period in 2021.

Three outbreaks have been brought under control, eight are still ongoing, and the remaining 44 have come to an end.

During the same period this year, 157,399 places were inspected, and 2,887 compounds worth more than RM1.3 million were issued to owners of premises for “raising” Aedes mosquitos under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.

To break the cycle of infection, control and preventative efforts were carried out for all dengue cases and outbreaks recorded in all localities.

Inspection of premises, fogging, and health education are some of the vector control operations carried out. People should keep their surroundings clean, eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites both inside and outside their homes, and seek medical attention right once if they develop a fever, severe joint pain, or rashes.
