At Dataran Merdeka, electric scooters are not legally allowed.

Electric scooters are banned on Dataran Merdeka since the route is a public road that has not been gazetted for this purpose.

In a statement issued today, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the decision was made in accordance with the government’s recent decree prohibiting the use of electric scooters on public roadways except in gazetted locations.

DBKL also stated that it seized two electric scooters hired to the public for illegal conduct the day before yesterday.

DBKL has not granted approval for this action. The operator was additionally charged with obstructing the duty of civil servants by the enforcement officers, and the seized electric scooters were transferred to the DBKL Seizure Store in Jalan Lombong, Cheras.

Micro-mobility vehicles, including as mopeds, personal mobility devices (PMD), and personal mobility aids (PMA), were reportedly banned from usage on roadways with immediate effect on April 26 by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

A moped is a two- or three-wheeled vehicle that is driven by people or an electrical source at a speed of less than 50km/h.

The PMD and PMA are vehicles that are powered by humans or electricity and have a top speed of less than 25 km/h, such as electric scooters and autos, and are designed for people with mobility issues.
