In the transition to endemic phase, Dr. Noor Hisham advises the public continuing to wear a face mask to prevent infection.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the director-general of health, today urged the public to remain alert in the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19 by continuing to wear a face mask to prevent infection.
Wearing a face mask, he said, was one of the preventive methods that might help prevent the virus from spreading, especially in high-risk environments such indoor places with poor ventilation, crowded places, and places where people contact closely.
Covid-19, according to Dr. Noor Hisham, still exists, is contagious, and causes death, especially in the elderly, children, people with weakened immune systems, and people with comorbidities.
As a result, he believes the optimum approach is for both the virus carrier and the healthy individual to wear face masks, as this will keep the danger of virus transmission to a minimum.
Because some people may be unaware that they have been infected with Covid-19 because they are asymptomatic, wearing a face mask is essential. Dr. Noor Hisham explained that face masks should completely cover the nose and mouth, not only the underside or tip of the nose, because the SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads easily by respiratory droplets.
If there are people who do not use face masks or who wear them incorrectly, we can rightly chastise them. According to Noor Hisham, the habit of wearing face masks should be created a culture in order to preserve our health, in addition to attempting to maintain reasonable physical distance and receiving the booster dose for those who have not yet received it.

Dr Noor Hisham, speaking on the latest developments in Malaysia’s Covid-19 issue as of yesterday, said the number of new cases stayed below 15,000 for the fourth day in a row, at 12,017, bringing the total number of cases to 4,268,486.
He claimed that out of the total number of new instances, 28 were in category three, 15 in category four, and 25 in category five, with the other cases falling into categories one and two.
Dr Noor Hisham, speaking about the use of health facilities for Covid-19 cases, noted that only Selangor had over 50% use of intensive care unit (ICU) beds yesterday.
A total of 558 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals, with 221 instances falling into the third, fourth, and fifth categories. The infectivity rate, or Rt, for the country is 0.86, with Selangor having the highest rate at 1.03 and Kelantan having the lowest at 0.66.
