Nowadays, there are many different ways to cheat, and when they see the human nature of “greed”, they can start their fraudulent plans as soon as they get the trust of the other party. Some of them use sweet words to deceive their victims, who willingly give up their money with both hands.

In fact, love network scams are not uncommon in Malaysia, but there are still many people who listen to scammers and dutifully take the bait. Recently, a 63-year-old woman from Penang was cheated out of RM3.9 million for listening to the sweet words of a man claiming to be a Korean man!

According to the report, the old woman revealed that she met this “Korean man” who was in the oil industry through Instagram 4 months ago. The two have never met in person for the past 4 months, but only contacted each other through Instagram and WhatsApp. During this period, the “Korean man” also sent his photos to the old woman and said with affection, that he would take good care of her in the future.

Later, the old woman noticed that the photo sent to her by the “Korean man” was similar to the one on the internet and became suspicious. When she learned that she had been deceived, she went to the police on March 17, 2022.

After the Penang Police investigation, Penang Chief Superintendent Datuk Mohd Shuhaily revealed that the old woman had used 19 bank accounts to make 184 transactions, transferring her late husband’s life savings of about RM3.9 million to the “Korean man”.

In addition, the police investigated according to the photo of the “Korean man” provided by the old woman and found that the photo he provided had actually been modified and was most likely a composite of another photo.

Finally, the police reminded the public to always be careful and not to be overwhelmed by the sweet words of strangers on the Internet!
