Last year’s floods in Selangor damaged around 10,000 homes, according to the state exco.

The Selangor government reported that the floods that devastated the state at the end of last year affected a total of 10,783 residential units, with the districts of Klang, Kuala Langat, Petaling, and Hulu Selangor having the largest number.

Rodziah Ismail, chairman of the State Housing, Urban Wellbeing and Entrepreneur Development Committee, said the houses affected by the flood were divided into three categories: minor damage (costing less than RM5,000), moderate damage (costing less than RM15,000), and full damage (costing more than RM15,000) (not more than RM56,000).

The majority of the houses that have been damaged are under RM15,000 in value. Doors, windows, tiny buildings, grilles, awnings, and other items are among the items that have been damaged. Meanwhile, 44 homes have been classified as total losses in the third category.

All the houses will be rebuilt with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s internal allocation for houses in urban areas and the Ministry of Rural Development’s internal allocation for houses in rural areas,” she told reporters after a working visit to see the progress of the flood victims’ repair-and-rebuild initiative in Selangor.

This initiative, according to Rodziah, should be completed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Meanwhile, she claimed that her committee had directed local authorities across Selangor to investigate the stability of existing slopes, particularly in sensitive locations like Ampang.
