Malaysia continues to have a downward trend, with 22,030 new Covid-19 cases and 92 deaths.

The number of new Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has continued to decline, with 22,030 illnesses reported in the last 24 hours.

The newest figures show a 505-case reduction from the number of new infections reported the day before.

With this latest figure, the total number of cases in the country since the outbreak began now stands at 3,845,601.

According to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the director-general of health, 394 of the 22,030 cases today were imported, involving 369 Malaysians and 25 foreigners.

The remaining 21,636 cases, involving 20,894 Malaysians and 742 foreigners, were reported locally, he added this morning.

Dr. Noor Hisham stated 388 patients are being treated in critical care units (ICUs) across the country, with 169 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and the remainder 219 suspected, probable, or under investigation.

He stated that 215 of them required ventilator support, with 97 of them being Covid-19 positive patients.

He further stated that 92 people died yesterday as a result of the fatal sickness, with 33 of them being confirmed dead before arriving at hospitals for treatment.

The total number of people who have died since the outbreak began is 33,872.

He also stated that in the last 24 hours, 33,872 people had recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 3,502,760.

Only 226 of the 22,030 instances today are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, which necessitate hospitalisation, according to him, while the rest are in Categories 1 and 2.

Dr. Noor Hisham said Covid-19 cases in ICUs in six states have achieved or above 50% capacity: 77 percent in Kuala Lumpur, 75 percent in Kelantan, 66 percent in Johor, 62 percent in Selangor, 59 percent in Melaka, and 51 percent in Penang.

Meanwhile, Putrajaya (107%), Selangor (103%), Kuala Lumpur (90%), Perak (86%), Melaka (84%), Sarawak (81%), Perlis (76%), Terengganu (73%), Kelantan (71%), Johor (58%), Penang (56%) and Pahang (56%) are the 12 states with more than 50% of non-ICU beds used for Covid-19 patients (55 per cent).

Two more clusters were discovered yesterday, raising the total number of active clusters to 377, according to Dr. Noor Hisham.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) in Malaysia is now 0.96.
