Since March 7, the number of Covid-19 instances involving children in Sarawak has increased.

According to the Ministry of Health’s CovidNow website, the number of Sarawak’s Covid-19 patients involving children aged 11 and under has been at 160 or higher since March 7.

Since last Monday (March 7), when it was 160 cases, the number has risen steadily, reaching a high of 188 cases on Friday (March 11). Sarawak had 857 cases on March 7 and 1,745 cases on March 8. (March 11).

On March 8, 167 instances were reported for this age group, 169 cases on March 9, and 180 cases on March 10, with a total of 1,903 cases, 1,727 cases, and 1,963 cases reported for these days.

Youngsters aged four and under made up 9.6% of Sarawak’s total cases seven weeks ago, followed by children aged five to eleven at 8.7% and adolescents aged 12 to 17 at 7.6%.

Five weeks ago, these rates were 1.5 percent in the 0-4 age group, 0.8 percent in the 5-11 age group, and 1.5 percent in the 12-17 age group.

They increased to 6.1 percent (0-4 years old), 5.9 percent (5-11 years old), and 4% this week (12-17 age group).

Since five weeks ago, two age groups, 18-29 and 30-39, have registered the most cases in Sarawak, each contributing more than 20% of the overall infections.

Sarawak registered 1,427 new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 277,277.

Covid-19 claimed the lives of 1,639 people in the state, with 345 of them being brought-in-dead (BID) instances.

Aside from that, Sarawak’s intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilisation rate for Covid-19 patients was 49.3% yesterday, the country’s lowest.

This rate is lower than the national average of 56.7 percent.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU bed use rate of 80 percent, while Labuan had the lowest rate of 16.7%.

Sarawak, meanwhile, maintained its lead in the country’s immunisation rate for children aged five to eleven, with a rate of 62.6 percent yesterday.

This is significantly higher than the national average of 32.2 percent for this age group receiving at least the first dosage.

Sarawak’s immunisation percentage of 90.6 percent for teenagers aged 12 to 17 who have received at least two doses is lower than the national figure of 91.2 percent.

The immunisation percentage for adults in Sarawak was also lower than the national norm of 97.5 percent, at 90.9 percent.

Sarawak has a vaccination rate of 75.8% of the entire population, which is lower than the national average of 78.9%.

More than 6.04 million vaccination doses had been provided to persons across the state as of yesterday.

Over 2.36 million first doses were administered, followed by over 2.14 million second doses and over 1.53 million boosters.
