Attention! AirAsia has restricted the use of check-in counters to selected passengers.
According to an AirAsia announcement, all passengers must check in through the AirAsia App or Kiosk at the airport, except for certain passengers who can check in at the counter.
Effective April 1, 2022, AirAsia will abolish the counter check-in fee, which means that there will be no fee for checking in at the counter, but this will be restricted to certain passengers.
AirAsia had planned to increase the counter check-in fee to RM100 from March 2022, but the decision was controversial and AirAsia decided to scrap the measure.
AirAsia said that currently 95% of passengers are already using contact-free check-in, which means they check in directly through the app and website. Therefore AirAsia will introduce a new measure from April 1, 2022, where AirAsia counters will only allow select passengers to check in.
Specific passengers will not be required to pay any additional fees when checking in through the counter. The counters will also check-in specific passengers, while other passengers will have to check-in themselves through the app, website or Kiosk at the airport.
With the phasing out of the counter check-in service, there will no longer be a counter check-in fee as of April 1, 2022, as only the following categories and eligible guests will still be able to use the counter check-in service free of charge.
– Senior citizens aged 70 and above
