According to news issued by the Ministry of Health, two infant formula products of Abbott have problems of bacterial contamination. The affected products are 400 grams of Alimentum and 0.9 grams X 50 sachets of Human Milk Fortifier.
Affected products are those with a shelf life of April 1, 2022 or later, bar codes beginning with numbers 22 to 37, and container numbers K8, SH or Z2. Ministry of Health requires all businesses to immediately stop selling the affected products.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said last week that there was a problem with bacterial contamination at the Abbott factory in Michigan, USA. U.S. has seen four cases of infants being hospitalized after consuming formula and one case involving a death.
Cronobacter is present in the formula products involved and can cause meningitis or septicemia, with infants typically experiencing fever, lack of appetite or lethargy.
Ministry of Health pointed out that if an infant develops symptoms after consuming the product in question, he or she should be immediately sent to a nearby clinic for medical attention.
