70% of our adults must receive booster shots by April or hospitalization rates could rise!
According to public health experts, 70% of our adults must receive booster shots by April, the month of Ramadan, or our hospitalization rate will rise and our health care system could face another collapse.
As of Feb. 16, only 41.7 percent of adults aged 18 or older had received booster shots, which means the country needs to increase booster vaccination rates to 70 percent within a month and a half to avoid a medical collapse due to rising hospitalization rates.
Most Malays avoid vaccinations during Ramadan or Eid, leaving the country with very little time to avoid a rise in hospitalization rates. This year, Ramadan will fall from April 2 to May 2 and Eid will fall on May 3 and 4.
The movement of people and gatherings during Ramadan and Eid will lead to further spread of the epidemic.
The country recorded 27,831 new confirmed cases of coronary disease on February 16, which is the highest single day of confirmed cases in the country’s history. The record of 24,599 confirmed cases in a single day was set on August 26 last year, which has now been surpassed by 27,831 cases today.
